Polishing natural stone is a craft, not a quick buff. Years of foot traffic, spilled drinks, cleaning residues and grit leave the surface dull, scratched and etched. Our process removes those damaged layers rather than masking them — working through progressively finer honing stages with modern equipment before bringing up the final polish with compounds matched to the specific stone.
Every floor is assessed by hand, because no two stones behave the same way. Softer, calcium-based stones such as marble, limestone and travertine are sensitive to acids and need careful honing to remove etching and reveal true colour. Harder silicate stones like granite call for different abrasives and finishing compounds to bring up a deep, clear reflection. Composite floors like terrazzo are treated as a stone-and-binder system so both the aggregate and matrix polish evenly.
The result is a smooth, even surface that shows off the natural veining, depth and character of the stone — whether that's a bright mirror gloss in a hallway, a soft satin finish on a bathroom floor, or a low-sheen honed look on a kitchen or patio.

Optional sealing after polishing
Polishing opens the stone at a microscopic level, which is the ideal moment to seal — but it's an optional add-on, not something we include by default. If you'd like the extra protection, we'll apply a breathable, penetrating sealer matched to your stone. It soaks below the surface to block oil, water and staining without leaving a film, changing the colour or trapping moisture — a sensible choice for older Irish properties and floors laid on lime or sand bases.
With a sealer in place and simple pH-neutral cleaning, a freshly polished natural stone floor will hold its finish for years before it needs attention again. Just ask when booking and we'll quote it as an add-on to your polishing job.
